Hello Everyone

Well... Winter is well along the way and eventhough the Ground Hog predicted 6 more weeks of Winter it is hard to find a snowflake anywhere in Southern Alberta. The golf courses are open and the snowmobile sits in the garage ready. I don't mind the warm weather and the snow can stay away for the remainder of the season.

With the upcoming racing season coming up fast and the first race in Medicine Hat on May 18 - 20th we are still not sure what is happening with our participation? The dragster needs a few safety upgrades for the start of the season, but they are minor.

I will try to keep the page more updated this season... and if we get out this year (which I am sure we will) we will post our agenda well in advance.

****INTRODUCTION****

Hello everyone: This is the Home page of Steve Schwartz and OUT A' TIME RACING. I live near Strathmore, Alberta Canada in sunny Southern Alberta.

Before you take a look around the site and try and understand what it is all about... a little bit about me should be in order? Firstly, I should say that without the support of my family and especially my wife Donna... the toys that are listed could not be possible. So my hats of to her and her patients with my love of Drag Racing.

It all started racing back in 1982 with a 1968 Chevelle, which was purchased for $700.00 from a friend who was going back to school and needed the money. I immediately tore her down and started the OUT A' TIME RACING Project. At this time, I rented a shop with a few buddies to keep the project alive and after about 6 months (to get the Chevelle race ready) she rolled out of the shop sparkling like a shiny new nickel.

My first 1/4 mile Drag Race in Medicine Hat was a thriller, as I went through the field and won the Street Class receiving my first trophy ever... and a nice cash bonus to boot. In those days my Crew consisted of Donna (main cheerleader and car pusher), my mechanic Mike Haaf, my 3 year old daughter Mandy (who was dragged to all of the races) and most of my friends who cheered me on to victory. That was a day to remember!

"Out A' Time Racing" and Our Philosophy

I have always been lucky and the saying of "Even Stephen" seems to fit. If something goes wrong it usually leads to something better so by taking this philosophy into racing everything works out in the long run. I have been very lucky over the years winning mostly first place finishes in the classes that I have made it to the final round of eliminations in. Here is a closer look at who we are and what makes the team click.

Steve and the Crew

Steve: Steve Schwartz is the Driver/Owner of the OUT A' TIME Racing Rear Engine Dragster. Steve's involvement in drag racing started back in 1982 with a 1968 Chevelle (which is still on display in the shop) and continued with several other vehicles including a 1992 Ford Thunderbird, a 1985 Chevrolet Camaro and now the OUT A' TIME Dragster.

Donna: Steve's wife Donna has been a major contributor to the team racing and if it weren't for her constant help and understanding the project would have never gotten started. She is a lover of NASCAR and Drag Racing and is a major contributor in the pits. Without her contribution... mentally, emotionally, physically and of course financially... racing would not be an option.

Brian: Brian has been with the crew since the day he was old enough to walk. He is what we'll call the crew chief in training. During race day Brian insures that the dragster is in race trim and ready to roll down the track, checking almost everything that is needed to ensure proper operation and safety. Without him the dragster would be sitting in the shop only worthy of a good look.

Dean: Dean is always ready to lend a hand. His help with dialing in the car and general mainainence when racing in Medicine Hat is always appreciated. In the past Dean has worked together with all members to win several first place finishes. Dean has a very different perspective on life and always finds a way to bring out the best when times are tough in the pits and on the track.

Other notable mentions are Steve and Donna's grandson (4) and granddaughter (6) who always offer their suggestion on how not to red light and what their grandfather needs to be doing to win. He jokes that he would probably be winning a lot more races if he took their advice!

There will be many pictures and information to follow in the weeks and days ahead so check back often... the thriller will be to come out and see the new and improved dragster and what impression they can make in the 2008 racing season. The CREW hopes to see you all out at the track.

Medicine Hat (What's in a Name) Legend has it that the Blackfoot and Cree Indians came together on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River and a bloody battle between the two tribes transpired. The Cree Indians Medicine Man became frightened and fled from the battle field crossing the South Saskatchewan river to the opposite shore. Swiming across the swift flowing river the current took his headdress and began floating it down the banks of the river. The Cree warriors now seeing the floating headdress took this as an omen, laid down their weapons and were slaughterd by the Blackfoot. The Blackfoot tribe beliveing this to be a sacred site named the site "Saamis" the Blackfoot word for the headdress worn by the Medicine Man.

The name "Medicine Hat" is the English translation of 'Saamis'
